Day Trading — Intraday Momentum, Confirmed by Flow
Who this is for: Traders entering and exiting within the same session, riding intraday momentum — but only when institutional options flow agrees with the move. The scanners find the candidates, the flow confirms them, and the levels time the entry.
The workflow
- Start from the scanner. Open Breaking Out for names breaking out with volume confirmation (SMA20/50 + volume ratio), and pair it with Triangle Breakout for compression setups about to resolve.
- Confirm with flow — never take the breakout naked. Cross-check the candidate against Live Flow and the Unusual Activity feed. You want institutional premium pushing the same direction as the chart, not fading it. A breakout with no flow behind it is a trap.
- Use the Heat Map for timing. The Heat Map shows which names are heating up right now (Golden Sweep / Block / Sweep urgency). Enter while your candidate is lighting up — not after it has already run.
- Time the entry on the level. Pull the ticker's Apex levels: enter at a wall and target the next magnet. Don't buy mid-range into resistance.
- Define your out. Day trades close the same session. Set a stop and a target before you click buy, and don't let an intraday trade quietly become an overnight hope.
What a clean flow signal looks like
A high-quality institutional flow signal worth following:
- $500K+ premium on the trade
- 30+ DTE on the contract — real conviction, not a lottery ticket
- Aligns with SPY direction — don't fight the broad tape
- Underlying is above its gamma flip (for a bullish play)
- Out-of-the-money strike — where institutions position for a move
- Enough volume to trade — favor names doing roughly 1–5M option volume so you can get in and out cleanly
Common mistakes
- Taking a breakout with no flow confirmation.
- Chasing a name that already ran instead of waiting for the next setup.
- Entering a low-volume name and getting stuck in a wide spread.
- Ignoring SPY direction and fighting the broad tape.
