Long-TermMonths+
Buy and hold quality. Follow what the smart money is accumulating, collect dividends.
Your tools
The playbook
- Start from quality. Open Long Term Value. Sort by quality score or pick a starter basket (Top Quality, Dividend Safety, Mega-Cap Compounders).
- Read the deep dive. On a name's Long-Term page, check fundamentals, the quality grade, dividend safety, and smart-money ownership before buying.
- Corroborate with smart money. Insider Activity and Politician Trades show whether informed buyers are accumulating the same names — corroboration, not gospel.
- Plan income. Use the Dividends calendar to time entries around ex-dates and build a dividend ladder over months.

Long-Term — Buy & Hold Quality, Follow the Smart Money
Who this is for: Investors building positions over months to years — quality compounders, dividend income, and value — using TD Pro to find what informed buyers are accumulating and to time entries around dividends. The slowest, most forgiving path; the work is selection and patience, not timing.
The workflow
- Start from quality. Open Long Term Value and sort by quality score, or pick a starter basket — Top Quality, Dividend Safety, Cheap Quality, or Mega-Cap Compounders — so you're not staring at a blank screen.
- Read the deep dive. On a name's Long Term Value page, check the quality score and grade, the fundamentals (P/E, debt, margins), dividend safety, and smart-money ownership before buying. The same suitability checklist that vets a wheel candidate vets a long-term hold.
- Corroborate with informed buyers. Cross-check against Insider Activity — especially cluster buys, where several insiders buy the same name — and Politician Trades. It's corroboration, not gospel, but informed buyers accumulating the same quality name is a meaningful tell.
- Plan income around dividends. Use the Dividend Calendar (60-day forward ex-dates) to time entries and build a dividend ladder over months. Remember you must own the shares before the ex-date to receive the dividend.
- Optional leverage via LEAPS. For a more capital-efficient position, the LEAPS scanner finds long-dated calls that act as a buy-and-hold proxy — more leverage, defined risk, no margin. More complex than owning shares.
Before you buy — the checklist
- Strong quality score and grade on the Long Term Value page
- Fundamentals you understand (reasonable valuation, manageable debt)
- Dividend safety acceptable, if you're buying for income
- Smart-money or insider corroboration (nice to have, not required)
- Entry timed sensibly against the ex-dividend date, if income matters
Mindset
- This path ignores the intraday noise that drives the other four. The market regime — VIX, rotation, overall conditions — is context for when to add, not a reason to trade in and out.
- A name being "down today" is not a thesis change for a multi-month hold. Re-check the quality page, not the ticker tape.
First steps
- Open Long Term Value and pick one starter basket.
- Open a name's deep-dive page and read its suitability checklist.
- Add two names to your watchlist to track over time.
