Politician Trades

Under the STOCK Act, members of Congress must disclose personal stock trades within 45 days of execution. TraderDaddy Pro aggregates these public filings so you can track what lawmakers are buying and selling — people who often have advance knowledge of legislation, government contracts, and regulatory changes.

What You're Seeing

  • Member & Party: The politician's name, chamber (House or Senate), and party affiliation. Bipartisan buying in the same stock is a stronger signal than single-party positioning.
  • Transaction Type: Purchase or Sale. Large purchases are the primary signal; sales can mean reducing exposure or simply rebalancing.
  • Amount Range: Disclosures report trade values in ranges (e.g., $15,001–$50,000 or $1,000,001+) rather than exact dollar amounts. Larger ranges carry more weight.
  • Transaction Date vs. Disclosure Date: Both dates are shown. The gap between them tells you how quickly the politician reported. Trades near the disclosure deadline (45 days) may indicate the politician was slow to report.
  • Ticker: The stock traded. Click through to the Ticker Search to see if unusual options flow appeared around the same time — confluence between politician buys and institutional options activity is a strong signal.

How to Use Legislative Flow

  1. Look for clustering: Multiple members buying the same ticker within the same period — especially across party lines — suggests shared knowledge of a tailwind (upcoming legislation, defense contracts, FDA approvals).
  2. Cross-reference with news: Research what legislation is pending that could benefit that company or sector. Defense stocks ahead of budget votes, pharma stocks ahead of FDA decisions, and energy stocks ahead of energy policy votes are common patterns.
  3. Match with options flow: Run the ticker through Ticker Search. If institutional options flow is also bullish around the same period, you have two independent data sources pointing the same direction.
  4. Size matters: A $1M+ purchase by a senator on the relevant committee is meaningfully different from a $15K purchase by a freshman representative. Weight your attention accordingly.

Timing Caveat

Disclosures can lag the actual trade by up to 45 days. By the time you see a trade, the price move may have already happened. Use this data for multi-week to multi-month swing positioning, not day trading. The edge is in identifying the theme early, not reacting to a single disclosure.
