Apex levels

What they are

Apex Levels are the structural price points — GEX walls, gamma walls, and key open-interest concentrations — that dealers are most actively hedging around. They mark where the positioning is, which is why price often reacts when it arrives at one.

The key levels on the GEX chart

GEX Wall (tall positive bars): Where dealer hedging is concentrated. Price often struggles to break through large positive GEX clusters. These are your strongest intraday support and resistance levels.

Max Gamma Strike (Magnet): The single strike with the largest absolute GEX — the most heavily positioned price on the board, and the one most likely to produce a reaction if price reaches it.

What these levels are NOT

They are not price targets, not predictions, and not a direction call. We tested the dominant magnet against a mirrored fake level the same distance away on the other side of spot, and price closed toward the real magnet about as often as toward the fake one. A magnet above spot is not a reason to be long, and one below is not a reason to be short.

The same goes for the gamma flip: which side price sits on tells you how dealers hedge, not which way price goes.

Practical use

Use it as a map. Before entering, check whether a massive GEX wall sits overhead (for calls) or below (for puts), so you know which prices are defended. Take your direction from somewhere else — flow, trend, a catalyst — and use these levels to place entries, stops and profit-taking around the structure.
